New caliber added: Vihtavuori releases reloading data for .277 SIG Fury

Vihtavuori has released new reloading data offering with the addition of an entirely new rifle cartridge: .277 SIG Fury (6.8×51 mm), the commercial version of the U.S. Army’s new 6.8×51 mm cartridge developed under the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program.

Also designated by the U.S. Army as the 6.8×51 mm Common Cartridge, the .277 Fury was created to extend effective range and improve terminal performance beyond traditional 5.56×45 mm and 7.62×51 mm service cartridges.

Designed to deliver exceptional ballistic performance from a short-action cartridge, the .277 Fury shares dimensions with the .308 Winchester while utilizing a .277 caliber projectile. Its combination of high velocity and energy has quickly attracted the attention of precision shooters and hunters alike.

While the original military-focused .277 Fury concept is best known for its proprietary hybrid, three-piece cartridge case technology capable of handling chamber pressures up to 80,000 Psi (5,500 Bar), Vihtavuori’s reloading data has been developed using commercially available SIG one-piece brass cases. Consequently, all published load data is limited to a maximum operating pressure of 65,000 Psi (4,500 Bar).

Reloaders should note that while SAAMI specifications for .277 Fury also accommodate proprietary hybrid cartridge designs capable of significantly higher pressure levels, the published Vihtavuori data applies exclusively to loads developed with commercial one-piece brass cases, with normal large rifle primers.

The new .277 SIG Fury reloading data is now available on the Vihtavuori website and in the free Vihtavuori Reload App. Reloaders can find load data for a broad selection of hunting and target bullets, including Speer TNT, Hornady V-Max and CX, Sako Blade Pro 654B, Berger Classic Hunter, Hybrid Target, VLD Hunting and Elite Hunter, Sierra MKX and TGK, as well as Barnes LRX BT. As always, new data lines are highlighted in orange for easy identification.
